How Often Should You Clean Your Dryer Vent in Miami?

How often to clean a dryer vent in Miami, the signs it's clogged, and why humidity makes lint build up faster.

Before and after dryer vent cleaning in Miami: lint-packed vent pipe, then clear pipe

The short answer: at least once a year. Many Miami homes need it more often. Here's how to tell what's right for yours.

Why dryer vents clog

Your lint trap catches most of the lint from each load, but not all of it. The rest travels into the vent pipe and sticks along the way, especially at bends, joints and the outside vent cap. Over months, that layer grows until air can barely get out.

In Miami, humidity makes it worse. Damp air and lint combine into a heavier buildup that sticks to the pipe walls instead of blowing out.

Clean more often if…

  • You do laundry every day or have a large household
  • Your vent run is long, has several turns, or exits through the roof
  • You live in a condo where the vent connects to a shared building exhaust
  • You have pets that shed
  • The vent hasn't been cleaned since you moved in

Signs your dryer vent needs cleaning now

  • Clothes take more than one cycle to dry
  • The dryer or laundry room gets unusually hot
  • You smell something burning when the dryer runs
  • You feel little or no air at the outside vent while the dryer is on
  • Lint is collecting around the outside vent cap

Why it matters

A clogged vent forces the dryer to run longer and hotter. That costs more in electricity, wears out the dryer faster, and raises the risk of a dryer fire, since lint burns easily. Cleaning the vent fixes all three.

What you can do between cleanings

  • Empty the lint trap before every load
  • Check the outside vent cap a few times a year and clear any lint, leaves or nests
  • Make sure the hose behind the dryer isn't crushed or kinked
